Voices of Eden from Israel at the United Nations. Inspired by an invitation to perform in a Music of Peace concert at the United Nations on October 22, 1:15 Â 2:45 p. m., Eliana Gilad, founder of Voices of Eden has planned a peace tour of the United States to share good news, not commonly known in the US, healing music and inspiring examples of peace in the Middle East.
Voices of Eden is the conscious use of voice and rhythm as a natural healer, such was used in ancient times. The music has been medically researched in Israel in a neonatal hospital ward with a 50/50% Jewish /Arab population, and found to lower blood pressure, heart rate and increase quality of sleep. Joining Gilad on the tour is harpist Sunita Staneslow who performs with Gilad in the healing music program at the hospital.
Gilad will be on the East Coast of the United States beginning October 14 and plans to perform, teach and present to a variety of informal and formal gatherings, professional and interfaith groups. Cities slated for the tour are: DC, Boston, NYC, Houston, and New Orleans. "I will go to wherever there is an interested group of people willing to receive good news from the Middle East", says Gilad.
The tour is intended as a living example of faith at work, and will be funded through kind donations and tithing from individuals and organizations who support positive initiatives that create living, lasting and expanding peace. A mixed media Powerpoint presentation will inform audiences about the medical research performed at the Meir Hospital Healing Program, plus the other programs and plans for the Galillee center. "The healing music performance will enable audiences to experience our work first hand and learn of positive programs and activitiesÂJewish and Arab that are going on in the Middle East today", says Gilad.
"We are coming to present our music and results of the healing music research so that people can experience a positive side of the Middle East that rarely gets portrayed in the media." The music combines ancient spirituals in Hebrew and English as well as the pioneering healing music that combines voice with exotic eastern frame drums.
Gilad moved to Israel from France ten years ago, where she had worked for CBS during the 1992 Olympics doing voice overs for the ceremonies. It was during the Olympics that Gilad felt called to use her voice for a higher good. Two years later, an inner directive guided her to move to the Galillee to found a self realization and healing music center, in a green place where one sees blue. The calling detailed music of east and west, including computers and to be directed overseas. "At the time, I had no idea what that meant", said Gilad. "But I am a woman of faith and I followed through on the inner marching orders."
Ten years later, there are five Voices of Eden music discs and a workbook that are sold through the internet. This spring, I moved to the Galilee and founded the Voices of Eden Self Realization and Healing Music Center in a vegetarian health village," Gilad says. Her pioneering music that combines Eastern percussion to ground the body and Western melody to release tension is represented overseas at international conventions and concerts where she is invited to perform.
In September, the results of the healing music research at Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba Israel will be presented in England at a British Psychological International Conference at the University of Leeds.
On October 22nd, Gilad will be participating in the Concert of Peace to be presented by the The Positive Music Group at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The Positive Music Group is comprised of musicians throughout the world whose focus is on healing and positive communication through music. Composer/pianist Richard Shulman, member of The Positive Music Group who is organizing the United Nations peace concert, says, "We are bringing some of our finest artists together for this concert at the United Nations as a statement of and for world peace."
To attend the concert, please email names of guests by October 1st, 2004 to Don Robertson (donr@dovesong. com), or call 615-383-1400 for queries (UN security requires a list of all non-UN attendees be submitted by October 1st). Admission is by love donation.
